Bandcamp Friday
In my previous post I wrote that it was the last before my holiday, but apparently I was lying… I forgot about the upcoming Bandcamp Friday. I know it’s Mondayday, but since I’m leaving for my holiday soon, here’s already some tips (and a discount, below):
Brandon Locher – The Shadow Planets
I’ve been playing this quite a lot lately. Utterly enjoyable electronic music. Reminds me of Kettel a bit. Really hits all the right buttons, and is endlessly replayable. Includes an awesome Sam Prekop remix to boot.
Speaker Music – Synoptic Audio
Heady beats-driven music. Drexciya meets Mark Fell meets Jlin or something. Sort of maximalist and minimalist at the same time. Exciting stuff, raw and thrilling.
Tenniscoats with Tape – Minat Soul
Tenniscoats – Zenvu Yume (revision)
Not one but two upcoming Tenniscoats albums! One is with the great Swedish trio Tape, with whom the Japanese band also released the incredible Tan Tan Therapy back in 2007 (on the great -now defunct?- Häpna label). On the other album, Zenvu Yume, Tenniscoats apparently remix themselves. Anyways, preview tracks for both albums are really promising.
Lucija Gregov & Bernat Boronat – Rapport
Great droney/textural improv duo with cello (Lucija) and bass clarinet (Bernat), recorded at Amsterdam’s Bimhuis. Beautiful and deep.
Felix-Florian Tödtloff – Tint
I stumbled upon this by accident, via Instagram. And so glad I did! This is a truly amazing album. Super beautiful, very minimal, and just gorgeous. All done on guitar, but it doesn’t sound like your typical guitar music. The closest comparison might be Oren Ambarchi’s early stuff, but lighter. Anyway, it’s highly recommended.
M. Geddes Gengras – Guest List
A maximalist work, with (hence the title) loads of guests, most notably a few drummers (incl. Greg Fox) that contribute to several of the tracks. It mixes super well with the atmospheric synths. Trippy!
claire rousay – sentiment remix
Claire’s original sentiment album is great, a collection of slow core burners with auto-tuned vocals. But I think I prefer this remix collection, which veers into more abstract and subtle terrain. It’s quite varied, but still works really well as an album. Beautiful.
Primitive Percussion Youth Orchestra – Gabble Ratchets
Dark, ritualistic percussion music. Very cinematic, and could’ve easily be released on Miasmah or Cold Spring. The weird thing is though, it’s all performed by a bunch of kids, from 7 to 10 years old. Which makes the whole thing quite a bit stranger. These kids sound serious, and it’s a great listen.
