Samen
New compilation cd (and shirts!)
On June 6 I’ll release the cd Samen, which collects a bunch of singles, EPs, and compilation tracks that were issued between 2015 and 2025. There’s some of my personal favorite material on this 17-track, 76 minutes compilation, released on cd and as download on Bandcamp. It’s available to order now. (It won’t be available on streaming services, cause most of the tracks can be found there anyway.)
Especially the EPs were released with the idea of being solid entities, as much as albums are, but it was nice to change their context for this compilation, and find out they fit so well together.
Since I quite like the cover drawing (made by my son and me), I’ve decided to also make t-shirts. I’m ordering these on May 22, so if you want to be certain your size is available, you better order it before that date. Order these (and/or the cd) here.
These are the EPs and tracks you’ll find on Samen:
Zinder EP
Released digitally by the now defunct Nomad Exquisite label in 2019, these four tracks find a middle way between beats and abstraction, with some vocal samples re-used from my Stay Tuned project. The concept of the label was to release ‘miniature albums’, not longer than 13 minutes.
(Ver)pulver EP
Two tracks released digitally and as lathe cut 7” by Champion Version in 2025. Staying true to it’s title, the music sounds quite ‘pulverized’… raw and textural.
Gruwel single
This track was released as a digital single and on a super limited business card cdr. I’ve always loved the sound of low horns, and here I just went for it. I’ll admit, this track was quite an inspiration for it, or maybe I even copied it a bit? Some folks expressed a wish to have a whole album like this, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen (sorry).
Sound and Stone (Part 7) compilation track
In 2018 I was asked to participate in this project for which artists get a sample pack consisting of sounds by Hannes and Klaus Fessmann’s ‘sound stones’. Other artists include Jamine Guffond, Leyland Kirby (the Caretaker), Yves De Mey, and more.
As Much As It Is Worth EP
My first collaboration with dance/circus duo Marta & Kim, for a (very) short performance, also from 2018. It was sort of a test case, and (since I did many projects with them after this) it’s safe to say that it was successful :-) It was self-released as a 7” single, with It Didn’t Matter, an older sketch of the dance score on the B-side (and on this cd). There’s definitely some hints of my love for Tape and the ‘Morr-sound’ on these tracks…
Melodrama EP
Another 7” lathe cut (and digital release) on Champion Version, from 2019. With it’s muted, dusty sounds and shuffling rhythms, I consider this my most ‘trip-hoppy’ release :-)
Studying Space compilation track
I can’t really member the ins and outs of this track… perhaps is was already on the shelves when Peter van Cooten asked me for an exclusive track for his Ambientblog anniversary mix, which came out on a memory stick in 2015.
Graniet split cassette track
The premise (and title) of the split-single-cassette series is funny as hell: Angry Ambient Artists. Artists are invited by the Forwind label to step out of their comfort zone and create something more angry/agressive. I had to honour to be on the first volume, together with Philippe Petit.
Merg (feat. Rick Sanders) compilation track
A track created for the Dronarivm compilation Illuminations III, for which duos created an exclusive tracks. I proposed to work with Rick Sanders, who’s music I came to know through my good friend Mariska Baars. Merg started with his lush synth parts, which I edited and added some rougher sounds to.
Waqūr compilation track
This was initially made as a cue for the series Frontlinie, but I decided to refine it for the charity compilation To Yemen With Love, initiated by Michel Banabila. A moody piece, simple but effective.
Verlaat split cassette track
A 16-minute collage, made of pieces created for a feature film that unfortunatly never fully materialized. Thought it might be nice to at least do something with the music… Also released as a split cassette, by the Australian label Tandem Tapes, with artist presidiomodelo on side A. The assemblage feels a bit like a summary of my more cinematic side, and it’s a nice way to close this compilation with.
