Machinefabriek Update October 2025
I’m actually not sure why I still cal these posts ‘Machinefabriek Updates’, when most of my output nowadays is issued under my own name… Oh well… Here’s some news:
Fifty Favorite Frontlinie Fragments
I’ve been working on the music for Bram Vermeulen’s documentary series Frontlinie (for Dutch broadcaster VPRO) for a few years now, and decided it was about time to collect some of my favorite musical bits on an album. 50 tracks (choosen out of a few hundred) in 65 minutes… a bit of a restless ride I guess, but it’s nice to have these moments collected as a standalone release.
The digital edition is downloadable for free (or any price you see fit) on Bandcamp, and streaming on most other platforms. There’s also a nifty looking small edition CDr available through Bandcamp.

The Wonder Of It All
Last month I released the soundtrack for Daniel Linehan’s dance performance The Wonder Of It All. The show will première at STUK, Leuven (Belgium) this very evening (October 2nd), with a second performance tomorrow afternoon. So it’s a bit short notice, but if you’re around, go see it, it’s very much worth your time.
The score is still available (as download, stream, and compact disc), and is honestly some of my favorite output.
More info and tickets at the STUK website

Live recordings with Nina Hitz
Last month I played a series of improvised gigs with cellist Nina Hitz, with whom I also play in Hydra Ensemble. We performed in two churches: the Sint Janskerk and the Havenkerk in Schiedam (NL), for Galm 750, the musical program during Open Monument Day.
It had been a while since I performed live, so I was a bit anxious… but I’m pleased to say that (of course with Nina’s excellent skills being key) it went quite well. Hear for yourself; the recordings can now be found on Soundcloud. Enjoy!

First Youran single
After a few gigs as part of Joachim Badenhorst’ project YOURAN, we created an album, which will be out next month. It’s all compositions by Joachim, with performers Tsubasa Hori (percussion), Nabou Claerhout (trombone), Alistair Payne (trumpet), Simon Jermyn (guitar, bass), Hayo Boerema (organ), and myself. This time the tracks were assembled from different recording sessions though, with me adding electronics and finalising the mixes at the last stage of the process. More info next month, but for now you can check out the first single, Still, Not.
Oh, and there’ll be two Youran performances in December, in Ghent and Antwerp. Yay!

FLUX
I’ve been working with Marta & Kim for a few of their performances, and am lucky that they also asked me for their upcoming one, FLUX. This time Marta is directing, with Kim dancing, alongside Marie Khatib-Shahidi and Hellen Boyko. I’m creating the music with cellist Lucija Gregov (the other cellist in Hydra Ensemble :-D). The premiere will be on November 6, in Korzo, The Hague, followed by quite a few performances throughout the Netherlands.
Paul Sixta filmed and edited a gorgeous trailer for the performance.
