Nowadays I regularly put albums on Bandcamp as a (if you wish*) free download. Obviously I’ve released so much music that my discography might feel quite impenetrable, and I’m hoping to create an easy entry this way.
* it's actually 'name-your-price' - this way it stays in peoples Bandcamp collections etc... but paying zero cash is 100% okay!
Crumble (with Anne Bakker and Edita Karkoschka)
As you might know, Anne Bakker is a regular collaborator of mine. Her violin graces Crumble (released in 2016), as does Edita Karkoschka’s amazing voice.
Like most of my pieces, Crumble was created by using improvised recordings from my collaborators, not giving much direction beforehand, but just seeing what they come up with, and building with that, in a very intuitive way. Just start and see what comes out, where the sound directs me to. In this case: one long 34 minute piece. Quite glitchy, and noisy at points.
Building up a wall of blistering white noise in the first 11 minutes might not be very inviting, but after that things cool down, and Edita and Anne take center stage. I love how Edita’s voice reminds me of Beth Gibbons’, with the same combination of intensity and intimacy. It defenitly brought something to my music that wasn’t there before.
There’s many twist and turns after that, and it’s quite a dramatic trip at times.
I won’t say much more about it, just give it a listen, and download it for free (or little money)…
Enjoy!
p.s. be sure to check out Anne and Edita’s music:
p.s.2 yes, I realize how much the cover of Crumble resembles Quaristice…
I love so much of your work, but Crumble is probably one of my all time favourite pieces of music EVER, there's some moments from it that are completely etched into my sonic memory (which at my age is pretty full and cluttered!!!) such a mix of beautiful texture, surprising dynamics and wordless beauty. this post has reminded me to dig out the CD today. thanks for making it.
